Five days across the Naryn region: the yurts of Son-Kul, the 15th-century stone caravanserai of Tash-Rabat and workshops with nomads.

A route for those who are as interested in culture as in scenery. We spend two nights at Son-Kul in a family camp, where guests help put up a yurt, try making felt and learn to play ordo, a traditional game played with knucklebones. Then we go down to Naryn and drive south to Tash-Rabat, a stone caravanserai on an ancient branch of the Silk Road. We sleep in yurts right by its walls. In the evening the host tells legends about merchants and caravans, and in the morning you can climb a ridge with a view of Chatyr-Kul. We travel in a comfortable minivan, with no more than 4–5 hours on the road a day. Suitable for families with children aged 10 and over.

Lovely people and the caravanserai is magical. Quite a lot of driving on day three, bring snacks.
